Gather

Book Club

Our book club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00. They read books from all genres and are open to suggestions for the next book!

Affirmed

Affirmed is our LGBTQIA+ ministry. We provide ally training, education, and support. Recent speakers included a mental health professional, a trans activist, and an expert on local legislation. We also regularly do classes on “clobber passages,” clarifying what the Bible does (and does not) say about gender and sexuality. As a church, we encourage the respectful use of pronouns and names that people request. We have an annual pride service each June, and we have a booth and a float in all of the local pride festivals and parades. We also participate in Knox Pride Interfaith, a collaboration of religious groups who advocate for equality and safe spaces across the Greater Knoxville area, and PFLAG.

Speed Friending

This one is fun! We sit at long tables and are provided a question to discuss with the person directly across from you. When the timer goes off, everyone shifts one seat to the left and starts over with a new question and a new conversation partner. This is a great way to get to know others in the congregation! Of course, we always have snacks too, because what’s a fellowship event without good food?

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

This fellowship program is designed to encourage relationship-building in small groups. We meet in groups of 6-10 in volunteers’ homes and share a meal and good conversation. The guest list is a surprise, so you never know who you will be sharing a meal with each time!

Linger Longer

Nothing says fellowship like good food! After worship on the second Sunday each month, we share finger foods and and desserts potluck-style. Plan to stay a little longer on these Sundays and get to know your church family! (In November, our Linger Longer is replaced with a 3rd Sunday Thanksgiving potluck!)

Youth Group

Our middle and high schoolers meet Sunday evenings 5:30-8:00 for dinner, study, and games. They also participate in the annual Montreat Youth Conference and in Presbytery youth gatherings. Youth leaders are background checked and follow the Safe Church Policy of PPC.

Young Adults of Powell Presbyterian (YAPPS)

Our YAPP group (for ages 18-30) meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for study and on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for fellowship. This group regularly goes on outings (Ren-Faire anyone?) and is a great support system for one another. Come join us for a YAPP-fest!

Uncs (for ages 30-50)

Our 30-50s fellowship group (lovingly called the Uncs) gathers once a month for a fellowship event such as trivia night, friends-giving, and Singo! If you have been looking for a friend group that is supportive, loving, and fun, this is the group for you!

AARPs (ages 50+)

This group may quality for a senior discount at Shoney’s, but don’t let their ages fool you. They are lively and fun! Meeting Sunday mornings at 9:30, they share good conversation and mutual support for each other while learning about what scripture calls us to do in the world. And, if you don’t quite meet the age guidelines, they won’t ask for ID, so come along anyway!
